Ryde, a charming Victorian seaside town, is a true gem on the Isle of Wight, renowned for its expansive sandy beach that stretches along the coastline, offering an idyllic setting for sunbathing and swimming. The Esplanade, a picturesque promenade running parallel to the beach, is with cafes, and amusements, creating a vibrant atmosphere that captures the essence of seaside fun.

The town itself is a delightful mix of quaint boutiques, traditional seaside stores, and delightful cafes where you can find everything from unique souvenirs and local crafts to delicious treats. Union Street and High Street are particularly popular, offering a combination of independent shops and well-known brands.
For history and culture enthusiasts, Ryde offers a wealth of fascinating landmarks, including All Saints' Church, dating back to the 12th century, and the Royal Victoria Arcade, a beautifully preserved Victorian shopping arcade. The town's rich maritime history is showcased in its museums, giving visitors a glimpse into its storied past.

The Old Abbey Farmhouse, Quarr Abbey

This beautifully restored Grade II listed farmhouse offers a truly unique holiday experience on the Isle of Wight. Combining heritage, tranquillity and countryside charm in one of the Island’s most remarkable settings.
Surrounded by peaceful woodland walks, open farmland, red squirrels and the atmospheric ruins of the original 12th-century abbey, this characterful farmhouse provides the perfect retreat for those seeking space, stillness and natural beauty. Guests are welcome to explore the Abbey grounds, where Gregorian chant services, an art gallery, farm shop, monastery shop and café create a rare sense of living heritage.
After a day discovering the Island, return to the farmhouse, light the wood burner and relax in the calm of this historic setting. Whether you are planning a walking holiday, a romantic countryside escape, or a peaceful family break, The Old Abbey Farmhouse offers a one-of-a-kind Isle of Wight stay.
Located just two miles from Ryde town centre and a short walk from Fishbourne ferry terminal, the property combines rural seclusion with excellent accessibility, ideal for guests arriving by car or foot passenger.
Book direct with The Island Holiday Company for the best rates, exclusive perks and discounted ferry travel to the Isle of Wight.
About the property
Entering through the original eighteenth-century doorway, you are welcomed into a bright hallway leading to the main living spaces.
The farmhouse blends period charm with modern comfort. Two wood burners create a cosy atmosphere throughout the cooler months, while views across surrounding farmland bring light and openness to the home.
The dining room offers seating for four guests and features a wood burner, making it perfect for relaxed evening meals. The kitchen is well equipped with modern appliances, and a small utility room adds convenience for longer stays.
The living room is airy and inviting, complete with a Smart TV and countryside views, an ideal place to unwind after exploring the Abbey grounds or the wider Isle of Wight.
Upstairs, two comfortable bedrooms provide restful accommodation. The master bedroom features a double bed and en-suite shower room, while the second bedroom offers a king-size bed.
Outside, guests can enjoy an enclosed walled garden with patio seating — perfect for morning coffee, afternoon sun, or evenings under the stars. The garden is secure and suitable for a small dog.
Location – Quarr Abbey, Fishbourne, Isle of Wight
The setting of The Old Abbey Farmhouse is exceptional — not only within the Isle of Wight, but across the British Isles. Unlike many historic abbey ruins, Quarr Abbey remains a living, working Benedictine monastery, offering daily services and welcoming visitors year-round.
The Abbey grounds include woodland walks, open farmland, an art gallery, farm shop, visitor centre and café. Guests can experience the peaceful rhythm of monastic life while staying in complete comfort.
Fishbourne sits between Wootton and Ryde, providing excellent access to Island attractions. The Fishbourne ferry terminal is within walking distance via a scenic bridleway, making arrival easy and convenient.
The Isle of Wight is renowned for its mild climate, beautiful beaches, scenic coastal paths and charming villages — making this an ideal base for walkers, cyclists, nature lovers and history enthusiasts alike.
